Something not working, or a question about the app? Check the answers below, or email us.
How do I take a photo?
Tap the island at the top of the screen. It opens into a viewfinder: press the shutter. To put the camera away, swipe up on it, or tap “islet cam” or the photos below.
My photo is blank!
It’s developing, like real instant film. Shake your iPhone, or swing the photo around with a finger, until it comes through. If you’d rather not shake, turn off Shake to develop in Settings: photos then develop on their own in about 12 seconds, and shaking just speeds them up.
How do I change the look?
Swipe left or right across the open viewfinder, or tap the film label, to flip through films: Natural, Golden, Pop, Mono, Sepia, Blue Hour, Dreamy, Night and Expired. Camera looks, borders and themes are in Settings (the gear). Some films, formats, camera looks, pens, stickers and themes come with islet cam+.
How do I write on a photo?
Open a developed photo and tap the pen button. It zooms in on the border for you; pinch to zoom anywhere else. Pick a pen (black, white, red, blue, gold, silver or highlighter) and a tip size, or tap Aa to type and have it written out (Latin letters, numbers and a few symbols). Tap the check mark when you’re done.
How do I add stickers?
Open a photo and tap the smiley button: washi tape, a retro date stamp and emoji. Drag to move, pinch to resize and twist to rotate.
Where are my photos?
On the home screen, photos stack into a pile for each day. Tap a pile to spread that day out. The button at the bottom right switches between Piles, Grid and Wall.
What’s the film canister at the top?
Shots left in your film pack (eight per pack). When it runs out, the shutter says LOAD: tap it for a new pack. Packs are free; turn off Film packs in Settings if you’d rather not count.
How do I make a photo-booth strip or a double exposure?
Tap the format chip under the shutter until it says Strip, then press the shutter: four shots with a countdown. For a double exposure, turn on 2× and take two pictures.
It keeps developing in my Dynamic Island?
Yes: leave the app while a photo develops and it carries on in the island and on the Lock Screen. Tap it to come back to the photo. You can turn Live Activities off in the Settings app › islet cam.
How do I add the widget or the camera button?
Add the islet cam widget to your Home Screen to see your photos. Add the islet cam control in Control Center, on the Lock Screen or to the Action button to jump straight into the camera.
My iPhone has no Dynamic Island.
No problem: islet cam draws its own island just under the status bar, and everything works the same.
How do I change a photo’s border?
Pick the default border in Settings. To change one photo, open it and use the ••• menu › Frame.
I can’t hear the camera.
Sounds follow your iPhone’s silent mode. To hear them anyway, turn on Play in Silent Mode in islet cam’s Settings, and check that Sounds is on.
How do I keep my photos safe?
Photos live only inside islet cam on your iPhone, so deleting the app deletes them. Save the ones you love from a photo’s ••• menu › Save to Photos, or turn on Save to Photos in Settings to save every new photo.
How do I change the language?
islet cam follows your iPhone’s language. To pick another, open islet cam’s Settings › Language; it switches the next time the app opens.
I bought islet cam+, but it’s missing (after reinstalling or on a new iPhone).
Open islet cam’s Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Settings app › Apple Account › Subscriptions, choose islet cam and cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. See the terms of use.
